Eryri (North Wales), 15th-19th March 2027
Join me in the spectacular mountain scenery around Capel Curig, The Ogwen Valley, Nant Gwynant, Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog. During this five day workshop we shall be visiting iconic viewpoints, dramatic slate quarries, abandoned villages, expansive forests and cascading waterfalls.
Eryri, previously known as Snowdonia National Park covers an area of approximately 823 square miles. with fourteen peaks over 3000ft high and many more between 2 and 3 thousand it is a huge magnet for hillwalkers, particularly from the West Midland and Liverpool areas which lie only 1.5 to 2 hours away. That said the vast majority head for the most popular honeypots around Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and also in the Ogwen Valley and most often at the weekends.
The timing of this tour will ensure that we experience the area at it’s quietest which will afford us the time and space to photograph wherever suits the conditions best without compromise. There will be a certain amount of walking on this workshop as I prefer to get away from roads and carparks but these will mostly be on well made paths avoiding the steepest ground. That said, stout, warm and waterproof footwear and clothing will be essential, Winter can return to the mountains with very little notice. Of course, travelling on foot through a landscape allows you to connect more directly with it and we shall stop at every potential photo opportunity which is how I’ve successfully worked for the past twenty years. Rather than having a specific location and a specific light in mind I prefer to head towards a location but with receptive approach to take in anything good that presents itself along the route.
Each day will involve visiting two to three locations and spending two to four hours at each to fully unwind and get beneath the surface to make more meaningful images. Every location will be picked to suit the prevailing conditions that particular day in order that we can stay comfortable and have the best chance of making great images. From our base at Capel Curig we will be able to head out in three different directions to visit locations no more than 20 minutes drive away but we will also have some fantastic locations right on our doorstep.
Workshop includes B&B accommodation, packed lunches, transport for the duration of the tour and all tuition.
Not included; alcoholic beverages and evening meals.
Maximum 5 clients. 5 places available
